day 1

The day we got started was very emotional for everyone, excitement, nerves etc.  What i was not ready for was the surreal feel i would have all day long.  I guess my head could not come to grips with the fact that all of the planning was over and we were actually riding.  It was great we all started together and what I mean by that is not just Shane, Kyle and Myself on bikes but my mom and dad as well.  Mom and I shared a tandem and my dad rode my bike at mile 7 mom got off the tandem and dad joined me for the next 7.  This was great for me and I think for them as well.  Here is a picture of the team that started this trip.
As the day wore on the heat increased to a record setting 92 degrees and the humidity when right up with it.  Even though we had trained to ride the distance I was not ready for this heat and by the end of the day it had taken its toll.  With 10 miles left I was not with it and ended up running into Kyle who had to stop quickly.  Although it was a minor incident i had to bail and it messed up my neck.  This coupled with the dehydration made for a very rough evening and did not set me up for success for the next day.

Eat, Sleep and try it again that is the modo i guess.
