Day 22, Road Kill Cafe

Ok I need to vent a little bit.  Texas you have amazed me so far but I have a bone to pick with you.  Please do something about all of the dead animals you have on the side of your roads.  I cannot handle the carnage anymore.  I think we passed 30 or more dead and rotting dear today, plus coons, birds, bats etc...  The bodies are one thing but the odor is terrible.

Now that I got that off of my chest I feel better.  Today was a much better day for me then yesterday. The morning started off with some cloud cover and humidity that lasted till about 10:30am CST.  Once that lifted the temps rose quickly to about 96 by lunch time.  The wind also increased after lunch.  Here is the kicker with the wind, about 2 hours after it got windy the temps started to drop quickly.  By 6pm when we reached Comstock (the end of our 109 mile day) the temp was around 70.  Now we are being told that tomorrow’s height will be in the 70’s.  Looking forward to it, hope the wind is not blowing.

Texas changed scenery on us again today.  We are now riding through areas that remind me more of AZ.  Lots of scrub brush and Manzanita trees.  Even though the Texas is in a drought you can see that there must be water as there are areas of very green trees and some healthy raccoon populations.

I am very proud of Kyle and Shane they both keep plugging away even when you can see they don’t feel good on the bike.  It is so motivating; I have to admit that their dedication is what got me to the end of yesterday.  I did not want to let them down.  What an honor to be sharing this journey with these guys.

Yesterday I forgot to mention a unique thing that happened on these lovely chip sealed roads.  We hit a patch that was fairly new and as we road you started to hear a Snap Crackle and Pop just like the cereal.  It was the tires and the road popping as we road.  It was kind of neat, I am not sure if this was cause by air pockets forming as the tires rolled over or if the tires were actually sticking to the road and that is what was making the sound.

This picture is from the previous day but due to internet isues I was not able to upload it.  There was a fence that was about 200 yards long with posts ever 2 feet or more.  Each post had a boot on it, some were kids boots, there were cowboy boots, work boots, rain boots etc...
