Day 30, Rest Day in Silver City

Well we are three days away from our arrival in Phoenix.  We are all ready to be home for a couple of days.  We are also looking forward to all of the new riders that will be meeting us at the AZ boarder and in Phoenix to join us for the rest of the trip.

This may seem odd to everyone but it really does not seem like we have been away for a month.  The time really has gone by quickly.  We have all had some rough patches here and there but we have all stuck together and worked through them as a team.  I think that is one thing we can really be proud of.  We have never let any of the little things blow up and cause any problem.

We slept in this morning, 6am oh how sad is that, and then started the day out by reading until breakfast was ready at 9am.  After a big breakfast put together by Mona we took a trip into town.  The town is not big but by any means but we spent a couple of hours walking around looking in stores and just hanging out.  We ate lunch at a little joint called Nancy's Silver Cafe.  The food was great, most of us had hamburgers which were only 5 dollars with fries, what a deal.

We also stopped by the bicycle shop called the Gila Hike and Bike.  This is the kind of store I would like to run.  Have of the store was dedicated to cycling and the other was set up for hiking.  They did a good job of having a most of you basic needs covered for both activities.  If you are ever in Silver City this is worth the stop, the staff was very friendly as well.  We missed the 25th annual Tour de Gila race by a week.  This is a large cycling event which would have been neat to be in town for.  We will get it next time.

Well it is off for a little more rest, some dinner and then a movie before preparing for the weeks ride.  We have two really long days in the next three.  One of the days is 115 and the other is 118, this will make it a challenge to get to Phoenix in good spirits but I think we are a good enough team that we will all work together to make it through with no problems.  Look out AZ POP's Ride is coming home.
